Did I buy the Challenger or did I buy the GTI?

In my last post I espoused the loveliness of both the Challenger and the GTI. The Challenger has the wonderful 5.7 engine and classic muscle car design. The GTI has a sweet turbo 4 with a sweet 6 speed manual and 5 doors.

I drove both. But I only bought one of them. Which was it? German engineering or American muscle? See below for the answer!

Was it over when the Germans bombed Perl Harbor?!

I bought the GTI Autobahn, 6 speed manual. It’s a great car. It’s better in every way that the Accord wasn’t. It’s fast, it handles great, the interior is high quality, the seat are fantastic, the radio is fantastic. I haz a happy with all the turbos..........

Mmmmmmm. As much as I love a V8, The Challenger is doodoo butter by comparison. You chose well. I’m experiencing pangs of jealousy.

Keep this post in mind everyone next time you hear someone say, ‘No one cross shops X with Y’.

Yea, you know someone looked at me sideways when I told them I was cross shopping these cars. But they both hold 4 people comfortably and 5 in a pinch. They both have enough storage capacity to take me, my wife, and my son on a long weekend trip. They’re both enthusiast cars (albeit for different reasons,) and I’m a “car” guy, not a muscle car guy only, and not a sports car guy only; I can appreciate both and I have owned both before. And they are both close in price.

In the end, the screaming deal from VW and ease of the 4 doors ingress/egress for my son won me over. But if had ended up in the Challenger, I’m sure I would have been happy with it as well.

Yaassss. And it’s the correct color too even! Nachtblau is the best color on these cars.

Now, you’ll want to swap the Turbo muffle for a solid piece and change the intake so you can hear those sweet, sweet Turbo noises. I added a Diverter plus valve to mine to have a stronger wastegate spring for when I do eventually tune it.

I have also swapped the shift knob for the Cobb tuning one and LOVE IT.

Now you won’t resist how tunable this car is.

Welcome t0 the mk7 Family!

Yea, I thought I wanted red, but once I saw the metallic blue in person I was sold.

There’s so much aftermarket stuff for these cars it’s sort of overwhelming. I’ll probably get some miles on the car, get used to it, break it in, and see if I want to mod it.

Sounds like you’ve got some nice mods on yours.

Thanks! Good Lord there’s so many choices to mod these cars. My wallet could be drained in a few hours with all the goodies available, LOL!

No intake yet, but it is high on the list. I have done the other mods though.

I may get springs next over the intake. I’m not sure. I feel like the GTI pushes just a little too much and want a more neutral rotation when cornering. But hearing the turbo also makes me happy.

There is indeed an overwhelming tuning scene for these cars. Any idea you have, you can probably find someone making parts to do it.

Enjoy driving it. I know I do.

Also Gummi Pflege will stop your sunroof from creaking. I need to apply it to mine.

Man, I can’t imagine improving the handling. Stock is lights years ahead of my Accord. But once I get used to it, I’m sue I’ll find things to tweak. What springs or coils are you looking at?

I use Wurth rubber conditioner on my trim, so I’m hoping that will hold off any creaks. Thanks for the heads up though.

A light that looks like an engine warning light was on today and I freaked out. Turns out it was just the light to tell me the adaptive cruise is turned off. Wheh! Made two days without any issues.

He probably should have driven the other two muscle cars. The 5th and especially 6th gen camaro matches up to the GTI much closer, but I love the GTI anyways, congrats.
